Westerly Vulcan - £29,995

The Westerly Vulcan was introduced at the London Boat Show in 1980. It was promoted as an all weather cruiser offering good accommodation. Beautifully designed by Laurent Giles, it offered a greater feeling of space than one would expect from a 34 footer. Only around 40 were built, probably because it was very expensive to produce.

Drakon is a good example and has been well maintained. The present owner had a pre-purchase survey in 2015 and has attended to the recommendations. This survey is available to serious enquirers.

Recently he has replaced the water system and water pumps. The keel bolts have been inspected ultrasonically. There is good storage for equipment, particularly the starboard cockpit locker with access by steps.

The owner finds her easy to manoeuvre in and out of a berth. The stackpack and lazy jacks make the mainsail easier to manage, as does the furling genoa. There is a helm position in the cockpit and a further position in the pilothouse. Visibility is good from here and this is a good place to steer from in inclement weather.

The engine is original and has been well maintained, with no issues. There is excellent access to the engine from the saloon.

The Westerly Vulcan has a surprising amount of accommodation and a real sense of space. The deck saloon provides comfortable seating around a table that folds down. This is a bright area with windows all round.

Access to the galley is forward down some steps.

Opposite the galley is the mid cabin of a good size with a double berth and a seating area. Going forward, the main heads compartment has a Lavac toilet, washbasin and shower fitment. There is a holding tank. Beyond this is the forecabin with a further two berths, and an infill to create a double.

The third cabin is aft of the nav station with a single berth and seating area. A further berth can be created by pulling out the pipe berth above. Beneath the seat is a second heads.

If required, a further double can be created in the saloon.

Decor, headlining and upholstery are in good order. The accommodation is heated by an Eberspacher heater.

The galley has a Plastimo 200 gas cooker with two burner hob, oven and grill. There is a sink with pressurised water, hot water being provided by a calorifier.
